NEVCO ENERGY DESCRIBES EMISSIONS

FOR SEVIER POWER COMPANY PROJECT

Bountiful, UT. -- In 1990, the U.S. Government adopted the Clean Air Act Amendments.  These amendments of the Clean Air Act imposed stringent guidelines that must be followed by all major sources, including proposed power plants like the Sevier Company (SPC) Project.  The project sponsor, Nevco Energy, will exceed all these government standards by using state-of-the-art clean coal technology.

Since the implementation of the Clean Air Act and the advent of the newer technologies that Nevco will use to build this plant, the United States has seen tremendous reductions in power plant emissions.  Today, the rate of emissions is one-third of what it was in 1970 – a 70 percent reduction in all pollutants. A comparison with other existing pulverized coal-fired power plants in Utah show that NOX and SO2 from the proposed SPC plant would be approximately 5 times lower per ton of coal burned.  Also, the proposed technology planned for the SPC project greatly reduces visible plume emissions.

It is important to remember that all of the emissions from SPC will have no significant impact on the health and general welfare of the citizens of Sigurd or Sevier County.  How do we know this?  Because the Environmental Protection Agency set the air quality standards for public health and Utah's Division of Air Quality (UDAQ) independently verifies that these standards will be met prior to the facility being approved.   These standards are based on years of scientific research and are designed to insure that sensitive groups (the elderly and children, for example) would not suffer any adverse health effects when measured or predicted pollutants come in under these established standards.   SPC has submitted an extensive air quality analysis for independent review by these agencies.

As required by law, we will not exceed the established standards.  Indeed, the affect of emissions from the proposed SPC project is well below the applicable government air standards.  We will not receive the air and other permits required by the Government for construction if we could not demonstrate to you and your elected officials our ability to operate within the established governmental standards.

It is important to remember there is independent oversight in this project.   Nevco Energy is dedicated to work closely with local, state and federal officials to ensure that all environmental issues are thoroughly addressed.  Our overall goal via Sevier Power Company Project is to provide reliable and affordable electricity while ensuring the cleanest possible air.
